This urban site in central Taunton adjacent to the railway station is one of the last pieces in the ongoing regeneration of the Firepool Lock Area. In response to the unusually shaped site the proposal provides a new linear stepping building with a max height of 8 levels. The layout has been designed to limit the amount of north facing apartments with the majority of the units having provide external terraces. The site is designated in a green corridor with the rooftops providing living roofs and green roof terraces allowing for communal allotment growing and communal relaxation spaces.

 

In total the scheme provides 79 affordable apartments in a mixture 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments with parking located on the ground floor within the buildings footprint. The scheme is proposed to have brick facades with grey and dark blue tones to provide articulation and a rhythm to the façade. Large glazed elements provide views over the Town and countryside beyond.
