ECE Westworks have been integral in designing an industry leading Eco Hotel for Zeal Hotels, with the overarching aspiration to design a Net Zero Carbon development, in both construction and operation, without compromising guest experience.  Collaboration between the multidisciplinary design team from the project’s inception, continually testing and retesting our ideas and correlating innovative design components has resulted in a proposal which is an amalgamation of data driven design and architectural solutions. The fabric first 142-bed hotel design is supported by flexible work spaces, conference facilities and a large open plan bar and restaurant dining area, with interactive theatre kitchen.  The proposal achieves LETI 2030 and RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge embodied carbon benchmarks (with an aspirational target of net zero carbon in operation). This has been achieved through close collaboration with all members of the design team from inception; incorporating an façade integrated intelligent PV system, implementing low carbon heating and cooling technology, targeting key Passivhaus standards, and a low carbon 60% GGBS concrete frame. These are all ‘components’ that already exist on the market but are combined in an innovative way for the first time in England.
